Another year, another new beauty trend. But this time, it isn’t the full brows or the icy white hair color we’ve come to love. Voluptuous nose hair is officially the latest beauty craze — and one we won’t be trying any time soon.
Apparently, people are no longer removing those ill-placed hairs that both women and men have battled through the years. Instead, they’re embracing them — and what better way to do so than plugging your nostrils with hair extensions, you know, for when you need longer nose hair than usual (?!!).
It all started back in 2017 when one Instagrammer, who goes by the name of @gret_chen_chen or Gretchen, posted a photo of herself wearing what appeared to be nostril hair extensions, but which were in fact traditional eyelash extensions glued to her nose.
It didn’t take long for others to seize upon the look, and so the hashtag #nosehairextensions was born. So far, the trend has yielded some strangely abundant results on Instagram, with beauty bloggers and vloggers posting photos of their long and luscious nostril hair extensions. One nose hair extensions video racked up over 147,000 views. And it’s not stopping here — another vlogger actually made a step-by-step tutorial for those who are interested in trying out the nostril hair extensions trend. Here it is (you’re welcome):

But while nostril hair extensions may not be the most flattering beauty trend around, did you know that nostril hair serves a purpose? Yep, that’s right — it helps to catch dust and other particles that can carry bacteria harmful to the lungs. A word of caution: if you’re planning to partake in this beauty trend, be careful with the eyelash glue. You might end up yanking out some of that protective hair upon removal. Ouch!
