Let’s face it — nobody likes the tedious process of washing, conditioning, brushing and then finally blow-drying hair. And doing all that in the morning? No, thank you.
What if we told you there’s another way to make your washing routine more manageable and less tedious? US blogger Jess Keys of The Golden Girl is sharing some of her best-kept hair washing secrets with us — and we promise you’re going to love them!
Don’t Blow Dry All of Your Hair — Just the Roots
According to Keys, blow-drying only the roots can make a world of difference to the longevity of your blowdry. How? First, it helps to reduce heat damage to your hair. Second, it helps to combat grease, which means you won’t need to wash your hair as frequently.
“When you wash your hair, let your hair air dry as much as possible,” recommends Keys. “But, if you hit the roots (just the roots, because, you know, hair dryer = damage) with the blow-drier for a hot second and get your roots dry (we’re talking, like, just the top half-inch to inch of your hair) then it REALLY helps to combat grease. This really makes an incredible difference in setting your hair up to be less greasy.”
Embrace Shower Caps
We get you — shower caps aren’t particularly nice to wear (and some are downright ugly). Yet they serve a purpose — to keep your hair under control and extend the time between hair washes.
“I don’t know why I just dismissed the idea of using a shower cap for the first 29-odd years of life. This really helps combat frizz, because even if my hair doesn’t get wet in the shower, it does get crazy from the steam.”
Bottom line? Get a shower cap and use it.
Use Dry Shampoo Before Bed and in the Morning
We’ve all been there — spritzing on dry shampoo just before leaving the house to give our hair a boost of volume. While that might kind of work, you can get even better results by using dry shampoo before bed as well. According to Keys, dry shampoo “truly shines in its preventative effects — it’s great to spray on before you go to bed! You’ll wake up with more voluminous bedhead and it’s amazing.”
Make sure you try some of these tricks next time you wash your hair.
